Custom minting of coins, tokens and medallions

The ANTIQUANOVA medal-making workshop specializes in the custom coining of coins, medals and tokens of high artistic and technical quality struck in small series (up to approx. 250 units) at unbeatable prices. However, coining of series consisting of several thousand units is also possible. Since 2000 our services have been used by customers in the Czech Republic and abroad, mainly in the USA. The ANTIQUANOVA medal-making workshop also provides solutions for those whose custom coinage projects cannot be realized in modern mint houses.

Our medal issues can be imagined as classic medallist art at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Although we use similar equipment and procedures the style of our works is much broader – from antiquity through the Middle Ages to today. We specialize in small-scale issues of coins and medals of very high artistic and technical quality. We are however capable of striking runs reaching several thousand pieces. The dies are always manually engraved by the medallist Mgr. Petr Sousek. Custom-made coinage is always struck on a screw-operated minting press that enables the precision making of larger medals as well. Given our specialization we prefer classic, pseudo-historic coinage and coinage with historical motifs and subject.

Guide through custom minting

Before you send your request, please take a minute to look at our complete presentation including References and carefully study this guide. In this way you will be able to get a preliminary picture of the quality and scope of our work.

Delivery periods

Given the wide scope of issue types that are on offer, we approach each order individually. Our delivery periods therefore range between 1 to 4 months.

Cost

The cost comprises of four items:

  • Design cost (non-returnable fee Euro 35, deducted from the die cost if used for coinage)
  • Die cost (including dies for single-side coinage)
  • Coinage cost (the actual striking of coins or medals)
  • Shipping cost (postage)

Important: The die cost is always charged. This makes coinage effective upwards from a series of approx. 100 units of coins or medals, although striking a smaller series is possible. The graphic design (pencil or Indian ink drawing magnified 2–3 fold) is included in the cost of the dies if used for coinage.

The cost of dies depends on:

  • Size (diameter)
  • Relief (height of relief – compare for example Greek Tetradrachm and Medieval Denarius coinage)
  • Complexity of engraving (pictorial details, number and type of letters, etc.)
  • Issue run (large runs require hardened dies)

Important: The dies pass into the ownership of the client and are stored in our workshop. ANTIQUANOVA is not authorized to use the dies for coinage for third parties. On demand, the dies can be sent free of shipping cost to the client, however ANTIQUANOVA accepts no responsibility for their condition or possible damage when used for coinage by the client.

The cost of coinage depends on:

  • Size (diameter and thickness)
  • Material (aluminium, brass, copper, bronze, pure tin, pure silver 999/1000 and gold 986/1000)
  • Finishing (with/without patina – e-g- aged copper)
